There are many Brooklyn area residents who work in the construction industry. Construction jobs are usually well-paying and allow a person to provide for their family and have a comfortable life. They can also be dangerous jobs with hundreds of people injured in the construction field each year across the U.S. New York has laws pertaining to construction safety and protecting construction employees.

New York Labor Law 240

Section 240 of the New York Labor Law is also known as the “Scaffolding Law”. It protects the rights of construction workers who are struck by a falling object or fall. The law requires employers to provide scaffolding and other safety measures such as hoists, ladders, hangers, slings, ropes, pulleys, etc. to protect workers. If a construction worker is injured an attorney can review the circumstances and determine if the injury is covered under Section 240.

New York Labor Law 241

Section 241 of the New York Labor Law covers construction situations involving demolition, excavation and safety equipment. Employers must take reasonable steps to protect their workers in these situations.  The law addresses how floors are constructed during the building progress and also deals with elevators. It mandates employers to arrange equipment in a way to maximize the safety of all workers.

If a construction worker is injured on the job, they may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in construction accidents. An attorney understands that construction injuries can cause life-long complications and will work hard to make sure their client receives the compensation they deserve.
